Massive explosion and fire engulf diesel facility in northern Mexico VIDEO

A powerful explosion followed by a large-scale fire broke out at a diesel processing plant in northern Mexico on May 21, injuring at least one person and prompting a major emergency response.

The incident occurred at the Marvic company’s diesel distillation facility in Cadereyta, Nuevo León, located approximately 25 miles east of Monterrey, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

Authorities say the fire erupted in the afternoon and quickly escalated, fueled by highly flammable materials stored on-site.

Dramatic video footage shared on social media captured the moment of the initial explosion, which triggered a massive fireball and sent plumes of thick black smoke towering into the sky. Additional blasts were visible as large fuel containers caught fire, intensifying the blaze.

According to Nuevo León’s Civil Protection agency, at least 13 fuel containers—each with a capacity of over 10,000 litres—were consumed by the fire. One person sustained injuries during the explosion and was transported to a medical facility for treatment. Eleven other individuals were safely evacuated from the site as a precaution.

Emergency services initially responded to what was reported as a commercial fire. However, upon arrival, the scale and volatility of the situation prompted a rapid escalation in the response. Firefighters from multiple agencies joined forces to bring the inferno under control, deploying additional tanker trucks and pump units to maintain a steady water supply.

As of the latest update, firefighting operations remain ongoing, and officials have not yet determined the full extent of the damage or identified the cause of the explosion. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely.

Local residents were advised to steer clear of the area and yield to emergency vehicles to facilitate the response effort.

The Marvic facility is known for its role in diesel distillation and fuel processing in the region, and the incident has raised fresh concerns about industrial safety standards in similar operations.
