Gaza death toll surpasses 54,000 amidst renewed Israeli attacks
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza has reported that the number of casualties from the intensive Israeli military operations on the blockaded Gaza Strip has now reached 54,056 deaths since October 7, 2023.
According to the Ministry, 79 people were killed and 163 injured in the latest round of shelling in the past 24 hours alone. The total number of wounded in Gaza since early October has risen to 123,129, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
Thousands of Palestinians remain trapped under the rubble of buildings destroyed by ongoing bombardments.
The Israeli army resumed heavy attacks on Gaza on the morning of March 18, following the expiration of a ceasefire which had been in effect since January 19.
Since the renewed offensive began, 3,901 Palestinians have been killed, predominantly elderly civilians, women, and children, with a further 11,088 injured.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate amid the escalating violence and ongoing blockade.
The Government Media Office has raised the death toll to over 61,700, noting that thousands of people missing beneath the rubble are assumed to have died.
A spokesperson from the World Health Organization stated that "everyone is suffering" in Gaza, where hospitals are running dangerously low on medical supplies to treat severe injuries, while Israel continues to block aid and escalate its attacks.
In Israel, approximately 1,139 people lost their lives during the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, with more than 200 taken hostage.
