Greece considers filling hotel pools with seawater to combat drought
According to its article, Sky News highlights that hotel pools on Greek islands could soon be filled with seawater as part of efforts to address the country's ongoing two-year drought.
Hotel pools on Greek islands may be filled with seawater this summer as officials seek solutions to the country's two-year drought.
Proposed legislation discussed in the Greek parliament this week could allow for the installation of pipes linking coastal hotel swimming pools directly to the sea.
The goal is to preserve dwindling water supplies on many Greek islands and redirect resources to other areas experiencing shortages.
Elena Rapti, Greece's deputy tourism minister, informed a parliamentary committee on Monday that the proposed legislation "sets the framework for seawater extraction and its use in swimming pools."
"The primary focus is, of course, to conserve water resources."
Greece has been grappling with severe drought conditions for the past two years, and the influx of tourists during the holiday season has placed additional strain on water supplies, particularly on popular islands.
