Iran advocates de-dollarization at BRICS forum to reduce US pressure on emerging economies
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that the de-dollarization process will significantly reduce US pressure on emerging economies.
Speaking at the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St. Petersburg, Ghalibaf emphasized the positive impact of BRICS member states on the global value chain, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He reiterated that adopting alternative currencies will largely mitigate US pressure on emerging economies.
He highlighted the increasing participation and interest in BRICS, underscoring its importance in international relations and its stabilizing role. Ghalibaf criticized the current global system for failing to resolve regional and international disputes, noting the formation of new collective economic and political capacities within multilateral organizations.
Iran, he said, has consistently advocated for a multilateral system, and both the Iranian government and parliament seek effective cooperation with BRICS member states to achieve their objectives. Ghalibaf pointed out four main areas of cooperation - transit, energy, trade, and banking - and expressed Iran's readiness to collaborate with BRICS partners in these sectors.
He emphasized the vital role of parliaments in BRICS' success, advocating for the establishment of facilitation laws to enhance trade and remove legal obstacles to expanding trade cooperation, moving away from unilateralism.
Ghalibaf traveled to St. Petersburg to attend the BRICS Parliamentary Forum, marking the first participation of a high-ranking Iranian official in BRICS public meetings following Iran's accession to the group. The Iranian delegation aims to leverage BRICS' capabilities for financial and commercial transactions.
