Iran denies clashes on Afghan border, reports minor conflict resolved
Amid reports of armed clashes on the border with Afghanistan, Iranian authorities have refuted claims, asserting that no such skirmishes occurred.
The Deputy Head of Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan province for security matters, Alireza Marhamati, addressed the situation, clarifying the events of April 4.
According to TASS, Marhamati stated that border guards from both Iran and Afghanistan did not engage in any armed confrontations along the border. He affirmed that a minor conflict had indeed taken place, but it was swiftly resolved without escalating into clashes.
"This afternoon there was a minor conflict on the border with Afghanistan, which has now been resolved," Marhamati declared, as reported by the IRNA news agency. He emphasized that there were "no clashes" and reiterated that the border remained open for normal activities.
Earlier, the Afghan agency Aamaj News, citing sources, reported that supporters of the radical Taliban movement entered into battle with Iranian border guards in the Nimroz province in southwestern Afghanistan. According to the agency's interlocutors, the Taliban detained one of the Iranian border guards, and the border was closed due to clashes.
