Newspaper: Armenian PM tasks president with winning over voters

02 August 2025 10:53

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is actively involving President Vahagn Khachaturyan in political processes and testing the waters ahead of the elections, writes the Zhokhovurd newspaper.

According to sources cited by the publication, the two leaders have reached an internal understanding under which the president will take on a key role in the pre-election campaignç Caliber.Az reports.

On the prime minister's instructions, Khachaturyan has begun a series of meetings with citizens in various regions, aimed at establishing direct contact with the public, assessing their mood, and promising swift resolution of pressing issues. These engagements are also intended to provide Pashinyan with firsthand feedback on public attitudes toward the government.

The launch of this outreach campaign took place in what is currently considered the most strategically significant region — Syunik (Zangezur - ed.), where Khachaturyan made a striking statement about “opening the gates of Syunik.”

According to Zhokhovurd, Khachaturyan, who retains a relatively favourable image and has not yet been discredited in the eyes of the public, has effectively been “sent” to the regions to act as a mediator between the authorities and the people.

The newspaper adds that these meetings are expected to continue in various regions of Armenia and may soon extend to different administrative districts within Yerevan.
