The United Kingdom has granted the United States permission to use British military bases for strikes against Iranian missile sites, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said on March 1.
In a statement, Starmer said British aircraft had “successfully intercepted Iranian strikes” as part of ongoing defensive operations, foreign media reports.
“Our partners in the Gulf have asked us to do more to defend them and it’s my duty to protect British lives. We have British jets in the air as part of coordinated defensive operations which have already successfully intercepted Iranian strikes, but the only way to stop the threat is to destroy the missiles at source, in their storage depots or the launchers which are used to fire the missiles,” Starmer said.
He added, “The United States has requested permission to use British bases for that specific and limited defensive purpose. We have taken the decision to accept this request to prevent Iran firing missiles across the region, killing innocent civilians, putting British lives at risk, and hitting countries that have not been involved.”
“The basis of our decision is the collective self defence of long-standing friends and allies and protecting British lives – that is in accordance with international law and we are publishing a summary of our legal advice,” he said.

Israel, in the course of its operation against Iran, is pursuing long-term objectives aimed at ensuring its own security, and these cannot be achieved without a change of power in Tehran, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar has said.
“The goal of this war is the definitive elimination of existential threats to the State of Israel in the long term. However, as long as the current regime remains in Iran, achieving this goal is impossible,” the minister said during a briefing for diplomats.
According to Sa’ar, “Tehran remains committed to the idea of destroying Israel and has not altered its strategy by even a fraction.” “This applies to its pursuit of nuclear weapons, the industrial-scale production of long-range ballistic missiles, and the use of terrorist groups along our borders,” he claimed.
“Iran has also sought to conceal its nuclear facilities and missile production lines as deeply underground as possible. This is being done to create a ‘zone of immunity’ that would preclude the possibility of airstrikes by either Israel or the United States. <...> All of this has led us to a clear conclusion: action is necessary, and the time for it has come,” Sa’ar added.

This murderous terrorist regime must not be allowed to arm itself with nuclear weapons that would enable it to threaten all of humanity.
Our joint action will create the conditions for the brave Iranian people to take their destiny into their own hands.
The time has come for all parts of the people of Iran — Persians, Kurds, Azerbaijanis, Baloch, and Ahwazi — to cast off the yoke of tyranny and bring about a free and peace-seeking Iran.
I call on you, citizens of Israel, to follow the instructions of the Home Front Command. In the coming days, during Operation ‘Lion’s Roar,’ we will all be required to show patience and inner strength.
