Macron rejects left-wing candidate for prime minister Citing risk of no confidence
French President Emmanuel Macron has rejected the nominee put forward by the leftist alliance, New Popular Front, for the position of prime minister.
This decision was detailed in a communiqué from the Elysee Palace, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media sources.
The communiqué states, "After consultations, the President concluded that a government based solely on the program of the New Popular Front would immediately face a vote of no confidence from other parliamentary parties. Such a government would be incapable of functioning."
On July 23, the Left Alliance nominated economist Lucie Castets for the position of Prime Minister. However, due to concerns over the potential lack of parliamentary support, Macron has decided against this nomination.
The document further announces that a new series of consultations with party representatives and experienced politicians with distinguished public service records will commence on August 27.
Reacting to the decision, Manuel Bompard, the national coordinator of Insubordinate France, a member of the New Popular Front, criticized the statement from the Elysee Palace on French TV, describing it as an "anti-democratic coup."
