Hungarian foreign minister pins hopes on Trump-Putin talks to end Ukraine war
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has expressed optimism that direct contact between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin could pave the way for a resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
"If direct contacts between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are established, we will have a very good chance of seeing the war in our neighbouring country finally come to an end," Szijjártó stated, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He emphasized the importance of dialogue between the leaders, noting, "The presidents of the United States and Russia must speak directly to each other again after many years, and I believe that at this moment, we cannot imagine a more promising scenario than direct talks between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin."
Szijjártó also voiced Hungary's hopes, adding, "We place great hopes on Donald Trump and hope that through direct Russian-American negotiations, the war in the neighbouring country can be brought to a close."
