Disney+ revives "Darkwing Duck" with all-new animated series

Disney+ is bringing back the beloved 1990s animated series Darkwing Duck with an all-new series, according to TVLine.

The new show will feature an all-star voice cast led by Star Wars icon Mark Hamill, who will voice Drake Mallard, the masked crimefighter known as Darkwing Duck.

Seth Rogen will voice Launchpad McQuack, while Lizzy Caplan will play Gosalyn Mallard. The cast also includes Lilimar as Duckie, Dan Stevens as Glade McTowers, Tiffany Shepis as Rosa and Kathryn Newton as Firecracker.

According to the official synopsis, Darkwing Duck has spent the past 35 years trapped in an alternate world where nobody has heard of his superhero exploits. His life changes when a rebellious teenager named Duckie, who knows about his heroic past, arrives and pulls him back into action.

The unlikely duo will face old enemies including Negaduck and Megavolt while reuniting with allies such as Launchpad, Gosalyn and Morgana in an effort to save the universe.

Darkwing Duck originally premiered in 1991 in syndication and on ABC's Saturday morning programming. The series followed Drake Mallard, a suburban father who secretly fought crime as the superhero Darkwing Duck, parodying classic superhero stories.

The original series ran for three seasons and 91 episodes. Launchpad McQuack, one of its central characters, originated in Disney's earlier animated series DuckTales.
