Romania puts F-16s in air after radar spots target near Galați

Romania scrambled two F-16 fighter jets on September 25 after its radar surveillance system detected an airborne target about 20 km east of Galați County, the Ministry of National Defence said.

The two Romanian Air Force jets, deployed for air-policing duties at Air Base 86 in Borcea, were sent to monitor the situation.

The National Military Command Centre also alerted emergency authorities, prompting warnings to residents in eastern Galați County and northern Tulcea County through the RO-Alert system.

The air alert was lifted shortly afterwards, the ministry said.
