NATO chief says Russia unlikely to attack NATO

Danish intelligence was right to assess that a full-scale Russian attack on NATO territory is highly unlikely, says NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Speaking at an event in New York, he warned that they cannot, however, afford to be naïve, Caliber.Az reports.

“Russia is massively building up its production and armed forces. At the moment, for example, industry in Russia, not defence industry, but the general industrial base, is producing for the war effort,” he stressed.

Earlier, Estonia’s Foreign Ministry dismissed speculation about a possible Russian attack on NATO as unfounded.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly rejected speculation that Russia could attack NATO member states by 2030. Russian President Vladimir Putin made clear that last year Moscow was ready to “formalise an agreement on mutual non-aggression with Western countries to address the concerns that exist in this regard”.

Later, speaking at a TASS-organised meeting with the heads of leading international news agencies, Putin said claims that Russia was preparing to attack Europe were “not simply nonsense, but a provocation and disinformation aimed at deceiving their own population”.
