Macron under fire for postponing government formation LFI party plans protest
France’s hard-left La France Insoumise (LFI) party is set to organize a major demonstration next month in response to President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to delay the formation of a new government.
The protest is scheduled for September 7 and will be held in conjunction with youth organizations, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
In a statement on X, the LFI accused Macron of undermining democracy by not respecting the election results. The party, part of the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) alliance, won a significant victory in the July 7 parliamentary elections and had proposed Lucie Castets as the new prime minister.
Macron's recent discussions with political parties have not resulted in the nomination of a new prime minister. Instead, he has opted to continue negotiations, citing the need to avoid government paralysis. The delay has sparked frustration among left-wing politicians, who view Macron’s actions as a deliberate attempt to sideline their electoral victory.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon, LFI's founder, has announced plans to submit a motion of impeachment against Macron and a censure vote against a potential right-wing government. The Socialist Party’s Olivier Faure has also criticized the delay, calling the ongoing negotiations a “parody of democracy.”
As political tensions rise, Macron’s delay in forming a government has led to widespread discontent and calls for immediate action from the victorious NFP.
