Iran imposes curfew on Syria-Iraq border following explosions
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has instituted a curfew in the town of al-Bukamal and nearby villages along the Syria-Iraq border.
The curfew was in effect from midnight on September 18 until 5:00 a.m. on September 19, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.
This move comes as IRGC and Syrian army units conducted extensive patrols in the region, which includes several checkpoints near the Iraqi border. The heightened security measures are likely a response to the transfer of weapons from Iraq.
The situation escalated following recent explosions of Hezbollah communications equipment, which reportedly caused significant alarm within the ranks of the IRGC and pro-Iranian militias. Reports indicate that militants in Deir al-Zour province are discarding their phones out of fear they may also detonate.
Earlier reports confirmed that explosions involving pagers in Deir al-Zour led to the deaths of 19 IRGC members and injuries to another 150 personnel. The incidents have contributed to rising tensions and security concerns among Iranian-affiliated forces operating in the area.
