Kyrgyzstan, South Korea weigh joint medical centre project

16 September 2026 11:18

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov proposed establishing a joint medical centre with South Korea in Kyrgyzstan and exploring ways to simplify the visa regime between the two countries.

He put forward the proposals on September 16 during talks with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in Seoul, Caliber.Az reports via Kyrgyz media.

The two sides also discussed expanding exports of Kyrgyz goods to the South Korean market, cooperation between investment agencies and the implementation of infrastructure projects.

Japarov described South Korea as one of Kyrgyzstan’s priority partners in the Asia-Pacific region. Lee congratulated Kyrgyzstan on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and expressed interest in expanding bilateral cooperation.

Japarov also invited his South Korean counterpart to visit Kyrgyzstan on an official visit, timed to coincide with the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The specific terms of any visa facilitation and the timeline for establishing the medical centre have not yet been announced.
