Iran’s IRGC downs US MQ-9 drone over eastern Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force shot down an MQ-9 drone over the eastern Strait of Hormuz using its new advanced air defence system, Press TV reports.

During the recent Iran-US conflict that began in late February 2026, US officials and major reports have stated that Iran destroyed roughly 30 MQ-9 Reaper drones, representing a substantial portion of the pre-war inventory and losses valued at nearly $1 billion.

These losses include both aircraft downed in flight by Iranian air defences and some destroyed on the ground during attacks on regional US bases.
