Media: Iran–US talks continue through mediators after Iranian delegation walkout
Negotiations between Iran and the United States in Switzerland are reportedly continuing indirectly through mediators, despite the Iranian delegation’s decision to leave the formal talks, according to Al Hadath.
The Iranian side reportedly withdrew from the negotiating table following threats made by US President Donald Trump, as reported by the Tasnim news agency. Citing a source, the report said the move was taken in protest against the American president’s remarks.
Al Hadath reported that the Iranian delegation has returned to its hotel, but contacts with the US side are continuing in an “informal format” via intermediaries.
According to the channel, Tehran is demanding that Washington adhere to the first clause of a previously signed memorandum of understanding, which stipulates the inadmissibility of mutual threats. Iranian negotiators are reportedly refusing to return to formal talks unless President Trump issues an apology for his statements.
The report also claims that Iran is insisting on additional conditions, including the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, as part of its broader position in the negotiations.
