Members of Iran-recruited drug trafficking network detained in Azerbaijan

Two more Azerbaijani nationals, whom Iranian drug dealers attracted to drug trafficking in the country, were detained on June 27.

The detainees are said to attempt marketing 4 kilograms of heroin in the capital Baku.

In the Nasimi district of Baku, regular operations were carried out against persons who organized the sale of narcotic drugs. During the event, held by the Nasimi District Police Department, Ogtay Nagizade, previously convicted of drug trafficking, was detained and taken to a pre-trial detention center, Caliber.Az reports, citing the press service of the Interior Ministry. On examination, he was found to hold about 3 kilograms of heroin.

During the operation, carried out by officers of the 22nd police department of the Nasimi district police department, Rashad Veliyev, a resident of the Sabirabad district, was also detained on suspicion of drug trafficking. One kilogram of heroin was found on him.

As a result of the investigation, it was established that Ogtay Nagizadeh and Rashad Veliyev contacted an Iranian citizen named “Isa” through social networks, whose identity was not established by the investigation, and for the purpose of selling they purchased drugs from him, which the latter smuggled into the country by various illegal means.

In connection with the facts, the Nasimi District Police Department initiated criminal cases under the relevant article of the Criminal Code.

With regard to Ogtay Nagizade and Rashad Veliyev, a preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen by a court decision.
