Over 240 Palestinians killed, several hundred wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza in 24 hours 73 bodies brought ot Shuhada Al-Aqsa Hospital

09 January 2024 10:56

The Palestinian Health Ministry has stated that at least 249 Palestinians were killed and 510 wounded in attacks by Israel on Gaza over the past 24 hours.

"I wake up thinking this is a passing nightmare, but it is a reality," said Gaza resident Nabil Fathi, 51, according to The New Arab.

"Our home and my son’s home have been destroyed and we have 20 people martyred in our family. I don’t know where we will go even if I survive."

More than 23,084 Palestinians have been killed and more than 59,000 wounded since the war began.

Meanwhile, the Gaza Ministry of Health reported at least 73 bodies and 99 injured were brought to Shuhada Al-Aqsa Hospital over the past 24 hours.

The ministry did not specify in which Israeli strikes these Palestinians were killed or injured.

On January 7, Israeli attacks targeted the city of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip resulting in casualties, including children.

The dead and injured people were taken to the Shuhada Al-Aqsa Hospital.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said early on January 8 that they transported a dead body and 17 injured people on January 7 due to the Israeli bombardment of two houses in Deir al-Balah.

The society also added that Israeli forces opened fire on several civilians along Salah al-Din Street, the main highway in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Israel hit the refuge of employees of the organization "Doctors Without Borders" in the south of the Gaza Strip.

Four people were injured, including a child. At the time of the strike in the shelter were more than 100 employees of the organization along with their families.

"Doctors Without Borders" specified that the Israeli army was aware of where the shelter was located, so the organization will have to find out what happened.

In December, the organization accused the Israeli army of destroying machinery and equipment. "Médecins Sans Frontières specified that all the equipment was marked with the organization's symbols, which makes the attacks deliberate.

Moreover, an unnamed US official stated the United States expects the fighting in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone to end within a few weeks.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during his visit to Israel, will point out to the leadership of the Jewish state the need to end the military campaign as soon as possible.

In addition, the foreign policy chief will demand greater accuracy in selecting targets in order to reduce the number of civilian casualties.

Further, informed Egyptian sources claimed on January 8 that indirect talks between Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza have resumed.

The talks had been frozen since the elimination of Hamas deputy politburo deputy Saleh al-Arouri on January 2. In particular, Egypt itself froze its participation at that time.

According to an Egyptian source, a high-ranking Israeli delegation arrived in Cairo on January 8 morning, January 8. Its purpose is "to resume negotiations aimed at the release of Israeli hostages held by resistance groups in Gaza".

Israel has launched air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by Palestinian resistance group Hamas on October 7.

At least 22,835 Palestinians have since been killed and 58,416 others injured, according to Gaza’s health authorities, while nearly 1,200 Israelis are believed to have been killed in the Hamas attack.

The Israeli onslaught has left Gaza in ruins, with 60 per cent of the enclave’s infrastructure damaged or destroyed, and nearly 2 million residents displaced amid acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicines.
