Pakistan affirms nuclear arsenal as peace assurance
Pakistan asserts that its nuclear arsenal serves as a cornerstone of regional peace, acting as both a deterrent and a stabilizing force.
According to TASS, Khawaja Asif, the Defense Minister of the Islamic Republic, made this declaration during a conference hosted by the South Asia Strategic Stability Institute (SASSI), commemorating the 26th anniversary of the Day of Greatness.
Asif emphasized that Pakistan's nuclear capabilities remain a credible defensive measure, deterring aggression and safeguarding national sovereignty. He underscored Pakistan's readiness to retaliate against any threat to its security, warning that any aggression towards the country would result in severe consequences for the aggressor.
Furthermore, Asif paid homage to the scientists, engineers, and all contributors to Pakistan's nuclear program.
On May 28, 1998, Pakistan conducted a successful atomic bomb test, officially becoming the eighth nation to possess nuclear weapons.
