Trump voices cautious optimism on Russia-Ukraine talks, warns of fragile situation
US President Donald Trump has expressed cautious optimism regarding the ongoing talks between Russia and Ukraine, though he emphasised that the situation remains fragile.
In a statement to reporters at the White House, Trump signaled both hope and concern over the diplomatic developments, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He's just said Russia and Ukraine are "coming along, we hope", adding it is "very fragile".
"None of this stuff should have happened," he adds, blaming his predecessor, Joe Biden, once again.
Trump has made favourable comments about a potential deal in recent days, but Ukraine has dismissed any notion of acknowledging its territory as Russian, a stance that seems to be part of Trump's peace plan.
He also took the opportunity to address claims surrounding the 2024 presidential election, reiterating his stance that political opponents had engaged in efforts to manipulate the election results and prevent his re-election.
Trump stated that it had been a significant victory, despite the fraud that occurred, noting that there had been a lot of fraud in 2024, similar to 2020. He added that in 2024, his opponents had tried and done everything they could, calling it the one thing they were good at.
The president, facing widespread criticism from political rivals, made it clear that he had no intention of adjusting his policies or making decisions under external pressure.
