Zelenskyy arrives in Canada for three-day visit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in Canada for a three-day visit accompanied by First Lady Olena Zelenska, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.

The visit, which runs from September 9 to 11, includes engagements in Calgary, Alberta, as well as Toronto and North Bay in Ontario. Zelenskyy is also scheduled to attend a meeting of the Canadian government.

The Ukrainian president will address Canadian government members at a government planning forum in Banff, Alberta.

According to the Canadian government, the visit will focus on shared priorities between Canada and Ukraine, including strengthening cooperation in defence, the economy and energy. Discussions will also address the “human cost” of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

“The visit underscores Canada’s continued leadership in supporting Ukraine and reflects our unwavering commitment to a just and lasting peace,” the Canadian government said.

Ottawa also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ukraine’s defence, recovery and reconstruction.

On his way to Canada, Zelenskyy stopped in Iceland, where he met with the country’s foreign minister.

Before that, Zelenskyy and his wife made a two-day visit to Norway, primarily to attend the funeral of King Harald V. During the visit, the Ukrainian president also held a series of meetings, including with defence industry executives, over the Freya anti-ballistic programme.
