Shipping through Strait of Hormuz falls to single digits

10 September 2026 10:50

Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz fell to seven vessels on September 9, preliminary ship-tracking data showed, as activity remained well below its 10-day average.

The figure was down from 12 vessels recorded on September 8 and below the 10-day average of 14, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Four vessels exited the strait and three entered, according to the data. Some ships may have been travelling through the waterway with their transponders switched off and were therefore not included in the count.

One of the vessels leaving the strait was the very large crude carrier Finland Prosperity, carrying nearly two million barrels of crude.

No liquefied natural gas tankers exited the strait. The other three vessels leaving were two dry bulk carriers and a short-range tanker carrying oil products.

Of the three vessels entering the strait, one was a dry bulk carrier, while the other two were a short-range tanker and a medium-range tanker.

Traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait was higher, with 28 commodity vessels transiting on September 9, broadly in line with its 10-day average of 27. Of those, 16 entered and 12 exited.
