Ukraine denies receiving official signals from US on peace process withdrawal

Spokesman for Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry Heorhii Tykhyi has said that Kyiv has not received any official signals from the US regarding Washington’s intent to pull out of the peace process aimed at resolving the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

“We have not received any official diplomatic information, correspondence, or notes, or any official communication through closed channels about preparations for a withdrawal from the peace process as of now,” Tykhyi said, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.

The Ukrainian official also added that Kyiv views recent public statements from US officials, including those made by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as part of a broader American communication strategy designed to “accelerate and stimulate the process” of peace negotiations. Rubio had previously commented to journalists in Paris, suggesting that US President Donald Trump might end efforts to mediate the ongoing crisis in Ukraine if significant progress is not made soon.

The Washington Post reported on April 23 that the US is frustrated with Ukraine’s refusal to accept territorial concessions and its preference to first discuss a complete ceasefire before addressing other issues. 

At a meeting in London aimed at resolving the Ukrainian conflict, the US was preparing to propose to European countries and Ukraine the recognition of Crimea as Russian, with Kyiv’s allies hoping to secure security guarantees for Ukraine in return. President Trump criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s stance on refusing to recognise Crimea as part of Russia, stating that this position is hindering peace negotiations with Russia.
