WFP delivers last food stocks to Gaza, supplies expected to run dry soon

25 April 2025 19:45

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that its food reserves in the Gaza Strip have been depleted due to the continued closure of border crossings.

"Henceforth, humanitarian and commercial shipments have not been able to reach Gaza for over seven weeks, as all major border points remain closed," stated the WFP, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

According to the organisation, food prices "have surged by 1400% compared to the period when the ceasefire was in place."

On April 25, the organisation "delivered the last remaining food supplies to hot meal distribution points" in the Gaza Strip. "It is expected that food supplies will be completely exhausted in the coming days. For several weeks, these points have been the only consistent source of food aid for the people of Gaza," the statement added.

The WFP also reminded that on March 31, all 25 bakeries cooperating with the organisation closed because they ran out of wheat flour and cooking fuel. Additionally, the WFP indicated that more than 116,000 tons of food aid "are in humanitarian corridors and ready for delivery to Gaza once the borders are reopened."

On March 18, the Israeli military resumed hostilities in the Gaza Strip, launching massive strikes on the enclave and breaking the ceasefire that had been established in January. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained the resumption of fighting as a result of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas rejecting the proposals made during negotiations by intermediaries and US Special Envoy Steven Witkoff, stating that the goal of the operation was to free all hostages. The radicals, in turn, blamed Israel and the US for the resumption of the fighting.
