Presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev shares photos from historic football match in Khankendi PHOTO

Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev shared photos from the football match in Khankendi on social network X.

Yesterday Azerbaijan witnessed a historic event. In a symbolic moment of triumph, the city of Khankendi, freed from Armenian occupation after 35 years, hosted the first-ever football match between two Azerbaijani teams on December 21. The teams of Qarabag (Aghdam) and MOİK (Baku) clashed in the 1/8 finals of the Azerbaijan Cup football match at the Khankendi stadium.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva came to the stadium to watch the match. Azerbaijani leader delivered opening remarks before the match started. 

The match ended with a 1-0 victory for Qarabag.
