Azerbaijan, China sign key agreements to boost green energy
Azerbaijan has signed several significant agreements with Chinese companies during COP29, marking a major step in the country’s efforts to develop renewable energy sources (RES).
The agreements aim to accelerate the transition to green energy and enhance collaboration in the field of sustainable energy, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the signed documents include a partnership between Azerbaijan’s state oil company, SOCAR Green, and China Energy Overseas Investment Co. Ltd. for the construction of a 160 MW solar power plant (SPP) in the Fuzuli district. This project is a key component of Azerbaijan’s renewable energy strategy, which focuses on harnessing solar power to meet future energy demands.
Additionally, memorandums of cooperation were signed with China Energy Overseas Investment Co. Ltd. and China Datang Corporation Ltd., two major players in the energy sector.
These agreements outline joint efforts to invest in renewable energy projects across Azerbaijan and establish a Research and Development Center in the country to support innovation in the green energy sector.
The projects are expected to bring significant investment into the renewable energy sector, contributing to the diversification of Azerbaijan's energy mix and its long-term sustainability goals.
