Parliamentary diplomacy boosts cooperation, Azerbaijani speaker says

Parliamentary diplomacy can help strengthen dialogue, cooperation and trust between countries, says Sahiba Gafarova, Azerbaijani Speaker of Parliament, during her working visit to Switzerland.

In remarks at the University of Geneva, the speaker stated that parliamentarians can broaden avenues for cooperation by sharing experiences, discussing solutions to common challenges, and learning from one another’s practices, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

She emphasised that parliamentary diplomacy can help maintain dialogue and cooperation despite differences, while exchanges of experience can help overcome misunderstandings and build mutual trust.

According to Gafarova, such cooperation is important not only for bilateral relations but also for engagement on regional and global platforms.

She further noted that lasting peace requires more than political agreements, stressing the importance of people’s security, opportunities, well-being and trust in state institutions. Parliamentary diplomacy facilitates dialogue, she said, while dialogue helps strengthen peace.

She described international parliamentary cooperation as a key tool for promoting peace and sustainable development.
