Mexican official: Mexico City in frame for WUF14 after Baku experience

Mexico has indicated that it is considering a bid to host the 14th session of the World Urban Forum in 2028 in Mexico City, while praising Azerbaijan for setting a high standard with the current edition in Baku.

Edna Elena Vega Rangel, Secretary of Agrarian, Land, and Urban Development of the Government of Mexico, made the remarks during the 13th World Urban Forum taking place in Baku, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

She said hosting the next forum in Mexico City remained a possibility, adding that Mexico aimed to meet the organisational and thematic benchmark established by Azerbaijan.

“Azerbaijan has set a very high benchmark, and we hope we will be able to cope with this major challenge,” she said.

Vega Rangel also praised her experience in Azerbaijan, describing Baku as “a very beautiful city” undergoing significant reconstruction and urban renewal, which she said offered important lessons for urban development policy.
