Romania, Bulgaria, and Türkiye to establish military mobility corridor

18 October 2024 09:20

Romanian Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, signed a letter of intent during a NATO defence ministers meeting in Brussels, aimed at creating a military mobility corridor between Romania, Bulgaria, and Türkiye.

Romania’s Ministry of Defence highlighted the urgent need for streamlined logistics in response to the increasingly complex global security environment, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

“The growing challenges in global security demand the simplification and harmonization of logistical processes necessary for the efficient deployment of armed forces in the region,” the ministry emphasized.

The letter of intent outlines the establishment of a coordinated network of primary supply routes across the three countries, designed to ensure the swift and reliable movement of troops, military equipment, and materials.

The goal is to undertake synchronized measures for overcoming the factors that influence negatively the movement of military loads and personnel, including the complicated and diverse national rules for crossing borders, the ineffective information exchange system, the lack or shortage of transport infrastructure and obstructed coordination on its use.

"Military mobility is a flagship initiative of NATO-EU cooperation and is central to reinforcing a credible deterrence and defence posture in the Black Sea region," added Romania's defence minister.
