Serbian ambassador attacked in Madrid by unknown assailant
In a disturbing incident in Madrid, the Serbian Ambassador to Spain, Irena Sharac, was attacked by an unidentified man.
The ambassador was approached by a man on the street and assaulted as she was was speaking on the phone in Serbian, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
Witnesses reported that the assailant, who appeared to be of Albanian origin based on his speech, approached her, inquired about her nationality, and then kicked her in the back before fleeing the scene.
Efforts by several bystanders to apprehend the attacker were unsuccessful. The police were promptly notified and have since arrived at the scene to investigate the assault.
Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić condemned the incident in a statement on social media, calling it “unacceptable.”
“I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the insidious physical attack on our Ambassador Irena Sarac in downtown Madrid,” he wrote.
“Such acts of violence are unacceptable and must be met with swift and decisive action. We call for a full investigation and accountability for the perpetrator,” he added.
