Hormuz reopening rests solely with Iran, says FM Araghchi
Iran bears sole responsibility for overseeing and fully restoring maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz under the recent understandings, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in Baghdad on June 28.
Addressing a joint press conference with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Araghchi stated that shipping traffic would resume once the remaining obstacles were eliminated and noted that the implementation process was already in progress, Caliber.Az reports per Iran International.
“No other country or institution has any responsibility in this regard,” Araghchi said.
He cautioned that any interference or efforts to establish mechanisms that conflict with the existing understandings would further complicate the situation, postpone the normalization of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and heighten regional tensions.
Araghchi urged all sides to respect the understandings, refrain from intervening in the management of the Strait of Hormuz and allow the agreed arrangements to be implemented.
