Spain's leftists demand from government explanation for supply of ammunition to Israel
Member of the Spain's Sumar left-wing bloc Íñigo Errejón has said that the movement demanded from the Spanish government explanations due to reports that Madrid sent ammunition to Israel after the start of the military operation in the Gaza Strip.
"This is very serious and the parliamentary group Sumar asks for an explanation," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). The arms embargo must be complete and permanent. The genocide in the Gaza Strip must be stopped." "Sumar" is part of Spain's coalition government led by Spanish Socialist Workers' Party leader Pedro Sánchez, TASS reports.
Thus Errejón reacted to the article published by the El Diario newspaper that in November 2023 ammunition worth of €987 thousand were exported from Spain to Israel. The State Secretariat for Trade assured that the shipments "comply with the licenses issued before October 7" 2023. It is noted that these were "non-explosive ammunition of medium caliber."
Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares Bueno assured that since October 7, 2023, Spain has not conducted "any arms sales to Israel".
