Azerbaijan, Armenia finalise talks on text of peace agreement - presidential envoy says In an interview with Mexican media
Negotiations on the draft text of an agreement aimed at normalising bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia have been completed, Azerbaijani President’s Special Representative Elchin Amirbayov announced in an interview with the Mexican magazine Mundo Internacional during his official visit to Mexico.
Reflecting on the peace process, Amirbayov highlighted that after nearly three decades of conflict in the South Caucasus, a historic opportunity has emerged to establish a sustainable and irreversible peace, Caliber.Az informs.
However, he also acknowledged ongoing challenges to signing the agreement, including Armenia’s constitutional territorial claims against Azerbaijan, which contradict the spirit and substance of the prospective peace deal. Additionally, Amirbayov emphasised the necessity of formally dissolving outdated structures such as the OSCE Minsk Group.
During the interview, Amirbayov underscored the significance of Azerbaijan’s cooperation with Latin American countries, naming Mexico as a key partner for Baku. He noted that his visit aims to strengthen the existing political dialogue between the two nations.
He further highlighted promising prospects for bilateral cooperation in sectors including the economy, trade, energy, culture, tourism, education, science, sports, and agriculture. The flourishing inter-parliamentary relations have fostered active ties between parliamentary friendship groups in both countries, paving the way for deeper collaboration.
