US bars NYT, WSJ and Bloomberg journalists from G20 meeting

30 August 2026 14:32

The US Treasury Department has denied accreditation to journalists from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg for next week’s G20 meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors in Asheville, North Carolina, The New York Times reports.

The US Treasury told the newspaper that “nearly 300 members of the media from approximately a dozen countries” will attend the event, including journalists from NPR, The Washington Post and Al Jazeera.

According to the newspaper, US President Donald Trump’s administration is deliberately restricting access for specific journalists. The Treasury denied accreditation to one of its Washington correspondents. The department, however, said accreditation had been granted to the NYT’s Berlin bureau chief.

The meeting of central bank governors and finance ministers will take place in Asheville from August 31 to September 1.
