South Korea to give all citizens free, unlimited access to AI

South Korea plans to provide all citizens with free and unlimited access to generative artificial intelligence services under a government program called “AI for All.”

The authorities aim to encourage the use of domestic AI models while reducing the country’s technological dependence on developments from the United States and China, Caliber.Az reports per The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The AI services are expected to be integrated with government systems. Through them, users will be able to perform tasks such as booking medical appointments, getting assistance with finding housing and receiving advice on tax-related matters.

Several technology consortia will participate in implementing the initiative. Testing of the program is expected to begin soon, with a full-scale launch planned at a later stage.

South Korean authorities view the project as part of a broader strategy to develop national AI infrastructure and expand public access to advanced technologies.
