Trump open to dialogue with Russia, says adviser
U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's recent comments about wanting to get along with Russia indicate his readiness for dialogue aimed at maintaining peace and stability, according to Brian Hughes, a senior adviser to Trump's campaign.
In a conversation with a small group of journalists, Hughes elaborated on Trump's approach, comparing it to his strategy during his first term as president, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
"If you look at North Korea, there was no doubt that its leadership was pursuing an anti-American course," Hughes said. "But nevertheless, he started a dialogue with North Korea's leadership."
Hughes explained that Trump's philosophy is that strength does not have to translate into global aggression. "You can have a strong military and economy and project that strength worldwide, but that doesn’t mean you have to be a destructive force," Hughes noted. "You can build relationships with leaders and governments, even those who are sometimes confrontational, to start a dialogue that prioritizes peace and stability over armed conflict."
