Trump shares footage of US airstrike on Houthis, threatens more action
President Donald Trump shared dramatic video footage showing a US military airstrike that obliterated a group of Houthi fighters in Yemen.
The footage, believed to have been shot by a drone, shows a large group of individuals, about 70 in total, standing in an oval formation, surrounding one person in the center, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Moments later, a massive explosion erupts, sending a fireball and a dark plume of smoke into the sky. As the camera zooms out, several vehicles can be seen nearby, and when the smoke clears, dozens of bodies are visible on the ground with a massive crater in the center of the scene.
Trump shared the footage on Truth Social, stating that the individuals were Houthi terrorists who had gathered to plan an attack. "These Houthis gathered for instructions on an attack," Trump wrote. "Oops, there will be no attack by these Houthis! They will never sink our ships again!"
The video follows a series of intense airstrikes against the Houthi movement, which has been engaged in an ongoing campaign of targeting commercial ships in the Red Sea. This assault has disrupted trade routes, including the critical Suez Canal. Trump has vowed to continue these airstrikes until the group ceases its attacks on international shipping.
"The Iran-backed Houthi Terrorists have been decimated by the relentless strikes over the past two weeks. Many of their Fighters and Leaders are no longer with us," he posted on Truth Social. "We hit them every day and night — Harder and harder. Their capabilities that threaten Shipping and the Region are rapidly being destroyed."
Trump went on to make it clear that US airstrikes would persist until the Houthis stopped threatening freedom of navigation. "Our attacks will continue until they are no longer a threat to Freedom of Navigation. The choice for the Houthis is clear: Stop shooting at US ships, and we will stop shooting at you. Otherwise, we have only just begun, and the real pain is yet to come, for both the Houthis and their sponsors in Iran."
The Houthis, in response to the escalating strikes, have claimed that 58 of their fighters have been killed since the campaign began on March 15.
The US military has not confirmed the timing of the airstrike, and neither the White House nor US Central Command responded to requests for comment. The airstrike plans were accidentally leaked to journalist Jeffrey Goldberg prior to the operation after National Security Adviser Mike Waltz added him to a Signal group chat involving other officials.
Trump re-designated the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization earlier this year, signaling the administration's commitment to countering the group's attacks and curtailing their influence in the region.
