Macron’s approval rating falls to record-low 16%

French President Emmanuel Macron’s approval rating has fallen to 16%, according to a poll conducted by Ipsos-BVA for La Tribune Dimanche.

At the same time, 81% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with his policies, marking Macron’s lowest rating in Ipsos-BVA polling since he was first elected in 2017.

“Public discontent is at its peak, and we are seeing all the problems associated with the dissolution of the National Assembly worsening: budgetary problems and declining purchasing power,” Ipsos-BVA Deputy CEO Brice Teinturier said.

According to Teinturier, there is a growing perception in society that everything in the country is malfunctioning.

As for Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, 20% of respondents approve of his performance, while 70% are dissatisfied. Teinturier attributed the figures to the fact that the prime minister has “become bogged down in budgetary problems, creating the impression that he is not going to change anything.”

The poll was conducted online on September 9-10 among 1,000 people aged 18 and over.
