Turkish Defence Ministry confirms shelling of plane in Sudan

28 April 2023 14:11

The Turkish Ministry of Defence confirmed the shelling of the S-130 evacuation aircraft in Sudan, saying that it successfully landded and no one was injured.

According to Caliber.Az, the Ministry of National Defence of Türkiye announced this on its Twitter page.

"Light weapons were fired on our C-130 evacuation plane, which was going to Wadi Sayidna for the mission of evacuating our citizens who were stuck in Sudan, where the clashes continued. Our plane landed safely. Although there are no injuries in our personnel, necessary controls are also carried out on our aircraft," the ministry tweeted.

A Turkish plane, which arrived in Sudan to evacuate foreign citizens, was fired on April 28 by the rapid reaction forces (special forces). According to TASS, this was reported by the Al-Hadath TV channel, citing a representative of the Sudanese army.

According to the report, the Turkish plane came under fire while landing at the airfield of the Wadi Seydna military base, located about 20 km from Khartoum. According to Al-Hadath, one of the crew members of the transport aircraft was injured as a result of the shelling.
