US delays delivery of Volcano systems to Taiwan Until 2026
23 September 2024 14:42
The US has announced a postponement in the delivery of M136 Volcano remote mining systems to Taiwan, now set to occur in 2026.
This decision is attributed to delays from the US and other unspecified factors, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Originally, Taiwan was scheduled to receive the first batch of seven Volcano systems in 2023, with an additional seven expected by 2026. However, a source within Taiwan's armed forces indicated that the deliveries will now be consolidated into a single shipment.
The deal, valued at NT$4.9 billion (approximately $153 million), is part of Taiwan's defence budget aimed at bolstering its military capabilities amid increasing regional tensions.
