Kurdish militias in Syria say surrendering weapons now "impossible"
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an extension of the terrorist group PKK/YPG, have stated that the surrender of their weapons is currently out of the question due to ongoing instability.
Speaking to Al Arabiya, SDF spokesperson Abjar Daoud explained that the volatile situation in Syria, continued outbreaks of violence, and the persistent threat posed by ISIS leave no room for disarmament at this stage.
“In the face of these ongoing dangers, it is not possible for our forces to relinquish their arms,” Daoud said.
He emphasised that the SDF remains open to a political solution, saying, “We are willing to integrate into the Syrian army through a constitutional agreement — one that acknowledges the distinct identity and role of the Kurdish people.”
Daoud further clarified the group’s position on conflict: “The SDF does not seek war, but we are prepared to protect our people wherever they may be.”
This statement comes in the wake of earlier reports suggesting that the United States and Türkiye had jointly given SDF-affiliated units a 30-day deadline to begin integrating into the Syrian government forces.
