Ukraine underestimates negotiation progress with Russia, says US envoy
Ukraine is underestimating the progress made in negotiations to resolve the conflict with Russia, US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff stated.
During an interview with Bloomberg, he noted that in the past six to seven weeks, since the Geneva talks, they had achieved more progress than the Ukrainians acknowledged, Caliber.Az reports.
“Well, the Ukrainians have said that when 90% done and I agree with them. In fact, I think that we've made even more significant improvement over this past weekend," he stressed.
When asked whether the deal was nearing completion, Witkoff said he was unsure about the immediate timeline but emphasised that significant progress had been made since the Geneva talks.
“I don't know about the next few weeks, but I know we've made more progress in the last six or seven weeks since Geneva than we've made, (I'm going to use there what they say), according to the Ukrainians, more progress than in the last three or four years,” he emphasised.
Additionally, Witkoff said that he and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, will travel to Russia on January 22 for talks with President Vladimir Putin on the latest proposals for a peace plan to end the war in Ukraine.
