UK to gain access to Ukraine’s battlefield data for AI training

25 August 2026 09:21

The United Kingdom will gain access to a vast trove of data collected during combat operations in Ukraine. The data will be used to train military artificial intelligence models. A partnership agreement on AI was signed by Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting in Kyiv, the UK government press service has reported.

The agreement will provide access to the Ukrainian battlefield data platform Avengers Lab. It stores video footage from surveillance cameras and infrared sensors deployed along Ukraine’s entire front line. According to the UK government, the equipment tracks the movement of armoured vehicles, artillery and air defence system fire, infantry movements, and UAV flights.

“This groundbreaking partnership will bring together Ukraine’s unrivalled operational experience with Britain’s world-class AI ecosystem, giving us the opportunity to develop the technologies of the future, changing lives here in Britain and saving lives on the battlefield in Ukraine,” Burnham said.

Kyiv first announced its readiness to provide allies with access to the dataset in March, offering “the opportunity to train their AI models on real data from modern warfare,” the Financial Times reported. In return, Ukraine hoped to achieve “faster progress in the development of autonomous systems and new technological solutions for the front.”
