China unveils world’s largest, fastest-growing EV network
China has established the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging network, now capable of supporting more than 40 million new energy vehicles, the National Energy Administration (NEA) announced.
According to the NEA, by the end of 2025, the total number of EV charging facilities in the country reached 20.092 million, Xinhua reports.
The authority emphasized the unprecedented speed of this expansion, noting that it took just 18 months for the network to grow from 10 million to 20 million units, compared with 13 years to install the first million charging piles.
“The rapid scale-up demonstrates China’s commitment to supporting new energy vehicles and sustainable mobility,” the NEA said.
The network comprises 4.72 million public charging facilities and 15.38 million private units, combining high-capacity urban hubs with convenient residential access. The average power per public EV charger rose to 46.5 kilowatts, representing a 33 percent year-on-year increase.
China has installed 71,500 charging piles at over 98 percent of its expressway service areas, with 19 provincial-level regions achieving full coverage across all townships, according to the NEA.
