Greenlanders stage social media protest against Trump’s purchase proposal
Residents of Greenland have launched a viral social media campaign on TikTok and Instagram in response to US President Donald Trump’s statements about purchasing the island.
One video, posted by the user pov_fromarctic with the caption “Bringing American culture to Greenland,” features two individuals parodying the posture of fentanyl-addicted people often seen on the streets of American cities, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The clip is part of a growing trend of online posts expressing skepticism and satire toward the US president’s proposal.
Earlier in January, Trump suggested that the United States should annex Greenland, including by force if necessary, citing national security concerns. He argued that the island is strategically significant and surrounded by Russian and Chinese naval activity.
In the wake of threats from President Trump, several European nations—including Germany, Sweden, France, and Norway—have opted to dispatch military forces to bolster Greenland’s defences. In retaliation, the US president has levied 10% tariffs on imports from eight European countries, including Denmark, pending a resolution of the Greenland dispute.
