Ukrenergo chief dies in electrocution incident

Oleksiy Brecht, the acting head of Ukraine’s state power transmission operator Ukrenergo, died at one of the company’s substations, authorities said on January 21. 

According to preliminary information, Brecht died from electrocution at one of the company’s substations. The circumstances of his death are still being clarified, Caliber.Az reports per Ukrainian media. 

Brecht had served on Ukrenergo’s management board since June 2022. He was appointed acting chief executive in September 2025, following the resignation of the company’s previous head.
