Germany gives green light for Eurofighter jet deliveries to Türkiye
The German federal government has approved the delivery of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets to Türkiye.
According to Der Spiegel, the Federal Security Council responded positively to Ankara’s request for the supply of 40 Eurofighter jets.
It was stated that the aircraft will be manufactured in the United Kingdom using components produced in Germany.
The report notes that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the British government, and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis were informed of the German government’s decision.
According to the publication, Türkiye has pledged to pursue the acquisition strictly within the framework of NATO solidarity — in other words, the aircraft will not be used against another member of the alliance.
The planned authorisation was also discussed with Mitsotakis before the federal government officially granted it.
The exact number and specifications of the jets have yet to be finalised. If Türkiye proceeds with the full order of 40 aircraft, the deal is expected to be worth approximately €4.75 billion.
