Syria resumes oil production at liberated fields in Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor
Syria’s state-owned oil company, Syrian Petroleum, has announced the resumption of oil production at recently liberated fields in the provinces of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor.
According to Azerbaijani media, the company’s communications director, Safwan Sheikh Ahmad, made the statement, adding that oil extracted from these fields is already being transported to refineries in Homs and Baniyas.
She explained that the company’s technical teams have begun extraction operations at the newly liberated sites and are overseeing the delivery of crude to the two refineries as part of a comprehensive plan to bring the fields back into full operation.
Sheikh Ahmad stressed that the immediate priority is to restore the technical condition of the fields. She said that within four months, production is expected to reach approximately 100,000 barrels per day, a level that would have a positive effect on Syria’s energy system and provide support to the national economy.
The resumption of production follows political developments earlier this month. On January 18, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa approved a new agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which предусматривает the withdrawal of all SDF and YPG units to the eastern bank of the Euphrates River.
The agreement also confirms the transfer of control over oil and gas fields in the provinces of Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa to the Syrian authorities.
