Hollywood star’s $10.5 million Malibu mansion faces coastal collapse

Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage’s $10.5 million Malibu mansion is at the centre of a coastal emergency after powerful surf and high tides triggered severe erosion and the collapse of beachfront driveways, New York Post reports.

The City of Malibu declared a local emergency on September 8 evening as crews worked to contain a massive sinkhole near the exclusive Broad Beach area.

“An evacuation order is in effect for all affected properties. Sheriff Deputies have notified residents in person, and a digital alert has been issued,” the city said.

Five beachfront homes were red-tagged, prohibiting entry, after their driveways collapsed “due to coastal erosion from the high tides and high surf”.

The sinkhole also damaged natural gas infrastructure. SoCal Gas crews, notified around 5:45 a.m., discovered damage to a half-inch gas line and safely stopped the flow. Repairs are underway, with residents warned they may notice a natural gas odor.

At least 15 concrete trucks were brought into the gated community as crews attempted to reinforce a failed seawall and fill a roughly 30-by-30-foot hole where a driveway had collapsed.

Cage, 62, purchased the 3,938-square-foot, four-level property in 2024 for $10.5 million.
